Let's Talk About The Future

Where was I and what was I doing:

I want to provide a little insight into what's going on. I've been going through some stuff recently. I had covid at one point and then there was a family crisis. Simply put, I've been a little busy. Anyway, here are my thoughts:

Future Changes:

In no particular order,

1.) The way the current version of the game saves data is very limited and also limiting. I must manually add any new values that I would like to save to about 8 different spots in the code which takes roughly 10 minutes per new item. That's time that could be better spent working on the story of the game. Luckily, I have found a simple solution; make it automatic. So that's what I'm going to try and hopefully it works well.

2.) I don't know where to take the current story. I had some plans, but I can't see what I have working into the end goal. Not to mention, much of the beginning story was put in place so that I could test various coding features and other things. With that in mind, pulling much of the early story out and replacing it with something more strategic and solid would be a major improvement. I am going to attempt to do that.

3.) The way the game handles loading areas is very poor. Some simple recoding will give me a lot more freedom in what I can do. At the same time, it will likely cause a little more time to be spent coding events and a little less in writing the story. Overall, it should lead to a better final product.

4.) The battle system is terrible at best. This is partly my fault for adding Lifeforce to the game and letting the player use drones to multiply drops. I probably also could have made the items less OP. Either way, the stat and battle system needs to be reworked.

5.) Because so many key systems need reworked and rethought, very little of the current code is salvageable. Most of the changes will affect all other aspects of the game and rebalancing everything in the current shell isn't worth the effort it would take, especially since most of the early content is getting scraped anyway. So, I will be working on a new and improved version of this game that will hopefully be more user and programmer friendly. At the same time, I have no idea how long this is gonna take. The original game took over a year to make, but this will likely take a month or two. Possibly less. It just depends on how much time I get from school. Anyway, that's what's up.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask. If you have any suggestions, please let me know. This is a time for change and I want to hear your opinions. After all, you are the ones who are going to be spending your time playing this game. Your feedback and opinions are extremely valuable.
